Description
The big summit above Nordfjordeid, with a guide who knows the way and the clock.
Trollenykjen is the peak you see from the pier: 898 metres straight up from the fjord. This guided hike takes you to the top and back in about 4.5–5 hours, with sweeping views over Nordfjord, the village and inland to Hornindalsvatnet, Europe’s deepest lake.
What to expect
We meet at Eid small-boat harbour and walk to the trailhead by Skipenes bridge. The path climbs steadily through forest to the old summer farm at Skipenessætra (about an hour), then continues up open mountainside to the summit cairn. The round trip is about 7.2 km with roughly 890 metres of ascent: steep and sustained, like a very long staircase, on a good marked path with no scrambling. We take breaks where the views open up, and there is time at the top for photos and a snack before the descent.
Meeting point and timing
Eid Småbåthamn (small-boat harbour), Osvegen 26, a 4-minute walk from the cruise terminal. Departure times are planned around cruise calls; tell us your ship’s all-aboard time when you book and we plan the turnaround so you are back at the pier with margin.
Included

Good to know
Children of all ages are welcome. The age of 12 is a guide: from about then, most children walk the whole hike themselves, and small children can ride in one of our child carriers, free to borrow. You need good hiking fitness: you should be comfortable walking uphill for two hours without stopping. Boots or trail shoes with proper grip are required. In spring, snow can lie above Skipenessætra into June; the route may be adjusted or the departure cancelled for safety in strong wind, thunder or poor visibility, with a full refund. If your ship does not call at Nordfjordeid, you receive a full refund.
Bring
Waterproof jacket, a warm layer (the summit is much colder and windier than the pier), at least one litre of water, lunch or snacks, sunglasses, a small daypack, and a charged phone.
