Description
The most famous summit in the Sunnmøre Alps: a steep, airy climb to a pointed peak 1,564 metres above Hjørundfjorden.
Slogen is the mountain climbers have travelled to Norway for since the 1800s, a perfect pyramid rising from the fjord at Øye in Norangsdalen. It is a serious day: short in distance, big in height, with a final section on steep rock where you use your hands. The summit view over Hjørundfjorden and the whole of the Sunnmøre Alps is one of the finest in the country.
What to expect
About 7.3 km round trip with roughly 1,500 metres of ascent, 7–9 hours including breaks. From Øye the path climbs steeply through forest and then open mountainside to the shoulder below the summit. The last stretch is a scramble on rock with exposure on both sides: a head for heights is needed, and the guide chooses the line and sets the pace. We take the descent slowly; it is the harder half.
Meeting point and timing
We meet at the Slogen hiking car park at Øye, roughly 1.5 hours by road from Nordfjordeid, with an early start. If you would like transport from Nordfjordeid, ask when you book or email us and we will arrange it.

Good to know
Very demanding. Age 16 and up, with excellent hiking fitness and comfort on steep, exposed rock. Boots with grip and ankle support are essential. Season: summer, when weather permits. Slogen is only safe in good conditions: the departure is cancelled or the route changed for safety in rain, wind, poor visibility or snow on the upper rock, with a full refund.
Bring
Full waterproofs, warm layers with hat and gloves, at least 1.5 litres of water, lunch and snacks, sunglasses, a headtorch, and a small daypack, with nothing dangling that can catch on rock.
