The climb to Slogen
From Øye, the trail climbs steeply up the mountainside, and the fjord drops further below you with every step.
Higher up, the route joins the ridge leading towards Slogen’s summit. The final stretch involves some scrambling before reaching the small, exposed summit, with its wide views over the fjord and alpine mountains.
The descent follows the same trail back to Øye. It is a substantial part of the day, with the steepest ground immediately below the summit.

Is this hike for you?
Slogen is a very demanding hike, best suited to experienced hikers with good fitness. The climb is steep and sustained, and you need enough energy for the long descent as well as the ascent.
The final approach includes a short scramble, and the summit is small and exposed. You should feel comfortable with heights and using your hands to move over rock.
