Description

Old summer farms, a mountain lake and a ridge with the whole fjord below, in a morning.

This is the walk for people who want a real mountain experience without a full-day summit. We climb from the fjord to Ossætra, a cluster of traditional summer-farm huts beside a small lake, then follow the ridge across to Skipenessætra with views over Nordfjordeid and the fjord the whole way, before dropping back down to the harbour.

What to expect

About 7.6 km with roughly 520 metres of ascent, 3–4 hours in total. The climb to Ossætra is the steep part: a tractor road through pasture, then a path with a short stretch of old stone steps and on up Osberget. After the farm the ridge walk is gentler, with the best views of the day, and the descent brings us back to the harbour. Moderate: steady walking uphill for the first hour, then easier going.

Meeting point and timing

Eid Småbåthamn (small-boat harbour), Osvegen 26, a 4-minute walk from the cruise terminal, and we finish there too. Departure times follow the cruise calendar; give us your ship’s all-aboard time when you book.

Good to know

Suits normal hiking fitness. Children of all ages are welcome. The age of 10 is a guide: from about then, most children walk the whole route themselves, and small children can ride in one of our child carriers, free to borrow. Shoes with grip are required; the stone steps are slippery when wet. The walk runs in rain, but the route may be shortened or the departure cancelled for safety in strong wind or thunder, with a full refund. If your ship does not call at Nordfjordeid, you receive a full refund.

Bring

Waterproof jacket, a warm layer, water, a snack for the farm, and a charged phone.
